Real Madrid 4 - 1 Athletico Madrid Video
Jose Mourinho said the derby against Atletico would be difficult, aware of how the very nature of these games transform the teams that play them. Atletico's intention was to give the game a sort of stop-start nature, especially after Courtois was sent off. Eventually, after 45 minutes they couldn't keep this up any longer and Real Madrid turned the score around and showered them with goals.
Atletico positioned themselves well on the pitch and even tried to score on occasion, eventually netting their only strike of the evening when Adrian defeated Casillas while possibly being offside. Real Madrid reacted and Di Maria served a perfect pass to Benzema, who was tackled in the area by Courtois. Cristiano Ronaldo took the penalty and netted the equaliser.
Atletico decided to try to stop Real with fouls and this kept Mourinho's men from having clear chances on Asenjo's goal. Nevertheless, Benzema had a good one, but Dominguez only just managed to clear his shot.
The Whites truly worked on winning the clash after half-time. Cristiano Ronaldo crossed the ball into the box on the 48-minute mark and Di Maria finished it off beautifully. Atletico stayed close to their box trying to cover spaces as best they could, but in the 64th minute, Godin made a huge mistake in a clearance and Higuain, having just come on for Di Maria, snatched the ball from Asenjo and scored a third for the team.
Godin was sent off on the 82-minute mark, giving another penalty to Real that was again converted by Ronaldo, sealing the match 4-1 and giving the Madridistas a 13th straight win this season.

"It's an important day for me because I played 90 minutes for the first time in six months. We also scored many goals. I'm not 100% fit yet and I have to work hard to improve on my football. Mourinho: "Olympique Lyonnais will be as serious and solid as ever"
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho faced the media ahead of the team's Champions League clash with Olympique Lyonnais which will kick-off tomorrow night at 20:45 CET at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
"Real Madrid have always been an attacking-minded team and I hope it will remain a balanced team that plays for winning games either at home or away. It's normal that teams improve when they work a lot. We want to become stronger than we were last season but it's not going to be easy".
"What is important is winning against Olympique Lyonnais. We earned 10 points out of our first four matches last year and they helped us to qualify. It's not easy to win in the Champions League but we now already have 6 points. Winning the group might give us an advantage in the last-16 draw, but we want to qualify as possible as we can and get further than we got last year in the competition".
"It's possible to play with both Higuain and Benzema or only with one of them. Both players are playing well and the competition between the two improves the collective performance of the team. My objective is to unite and not divide. What's in the press is different; it's a debate about who is good and who is poor. My point of view is different, we win and lose as a team. We have different objectives".
"I'm happy with Varane. He already made his debut in the Champions at 19 years old and he could be a starter at Real Madrid. We are all happy with him".

Cristiano Ronaldo: "I'd sign to stay on for ten more years"
Cristiano Ronaldo was interviewed by Cadena Cope in Lisbon. The player analysed the season, discussed the team's latest signings, and praised Jose Mourinho.
"We all expect to win important things next season. I'm sure we will, and so is the coach, because his second season on every other team he's coached was always better than the first, just like this was mine thanks to him and my teammates. We will win titles this season. We have the potential to win it all."
"Mourinho has proved to be the best in every league he's participated in. The best are those who prove to be so in several league championships and he's won every previous one he's played in. He has a strong winning mentality. I'm delighted to work with him and I hope he stays on for a long time. The fact he's now in Madrid working proves he is a great professional. I'm sure we will be tactically different this season. Mourinho knows we must improve and I'm sure we will all win something important together."
"I'm not going to leave Real Madrid, at least not for the time being. I chose Madrid over Barcelona for a reason. I feel fine in the city and how people treat you is what's really important. I'd sign on for another ten years and would gladly retire at Real. I had the chance to join Barcelona and other teams, but I chose Real Madrid because I liked them more than the rest. Money isn't the most important thing. I want to see my contract through."
"I will support our new signings when they arrive. Callejon knows the league very well and our two new Turkish/German players have a great mentality."
"I like Adebayor a lot. He is a very good player and an even greater teammate. He is great for the squad. He and Marcelo make everyone happy. He is positive for the team."
"Kun Aguero and Neymar are excellent players. Kun is one of the greats and Neymar could become a star of the future. Coentrao is a friend of mine. He is versatile and may well be the best Portuguese player currently playing in Portugal. He would be a great signing. He is very ambitious. Mourinho knows him well and knows he can help Real Madrid improve."
"I wish to win Real Madrid's tenth European Cup title. I know what's happened in Madrid in the last few seasons and I'm sure the city will come to a standstill if we win the Champions League. We should nonetheless avoid obsessing about it. Things turn out better when there's no mental pressure. We'll win the 'Tenth' sooner or later."

Cristiano Ronaldo : "I have no aim to leave Real Madrid"
Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 40 goals in La Liga, is adamant that the allure of winning bigger titles with Madrid following their Copa del Rey triumph last term will keep him busy at the Bernabeu.
Yet, reports of interest from England, including former club Manchester United continue to surface, but the Ronaldo has no doubt over his future.
Ronaldo admits he wanted much more following failed bids to win La Liga and the Champions League which ended in the hands of rivals Barcelona.
"In relation to goals, it was a special season, without doubt. Scoring 50 odd goals is not easy, and I’m extremely pleased about it. But what I wanted more was titles," he added.

Ujfalusi: Sergio Aguero wants to join Real Madrid
Argentine's team-mate has stated that the player has his sights set on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu giants
Tomas Ujfalusi has revealed to the Spanish media that Atletico Madrid team-mate Sergio Aguero wants to sign for Real Madrid next season.
The Argentinian frontman announced on his official website his intention to leave the Vicente Calderon, while the player also requested that the club respect his wish to further his career.
The Czech defender has stated that this is due to a desire from Aguero to move across the Spanish capital, telling Radio Sportiva. "For three or four months we [have] known he wanted to go. What is clear is [that] he has chosen to [go to] Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old has been at Atleti since joining from Independiente in 2006 and is the club's top scorer this season with 26 goals in all competitions.
'Kun' has been linked with moves to some of Europe's top clubs including Chelsea, Inter and Juventus, but Ujfalusi is certain that a move to the Santiago Bernabeu is imminent, and added that he is unsure as to what the fan response will be to such a transfer.
"We do not know how fans will react, because there is a great rivalry. It will be a difficult decision for him," he concluded.

Iker Casillas:"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world"
Iker Casillas attended a publicity event on Monday afternoon, during which he hit on two main points of interests: Cristiano Ronaldo's scoring record and UEFA's dismissal of the report concerning racial abuse by Sergio Busquets.
Cristiano Ronaldo:
"He is a decisive and influential player. Very few are capable of putting up the numbers he has. Only three players have ever done it, which speaks of the talent he possesses. There are no more team titles that we can win this year, but we can help him win an individual award. We feel it is important for him to win an award when he is so deserving of it. He is one of the best players in the world."
UEFA:(Sergio Busquets)
"If UEFA made the decision not to punish Busquets, they must know what they saw and what happened. Everyone saw it. There is no alternative."
Spanish national team:
"It was an intense 19 days with four matches that both clubs wanted to win. Anything that happened is in the past. Each team did what was in its best interest. It is normal that there be tense moments. It would be terrible if the players stopped getting along after accomplishing what we did. When we are playing together for La Roja we have the interests of all Spaniards in mind."
Champions League final:
"I hope it is football that comes out as the big winner and that fans are well-behaved and respectful of one another. The two teams have earned the right to play in the final for one reason or another."
