Real Madrid And Portugal Star Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes A Father

Real Madrid star and former Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that he has become a father.

The announcement came on Saturday night via his official Twitter account and Facebook page in which the 25-year-old stated that the newborn child will be under his "exclusive guardianship". However, the former Manchester United star didn't disclose the identity of the mother.

The full statement on Ronaldo's official Facebook page reads:

"It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy. As agreed with the baby's mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship.

"No further information will be provided on this subject and I request everyone to fully respect my right to privacy (and that of the child) at least on issues as personal as these are."

Ronaldo has had a disappointing time with Portugal in South Africa, where his team lost 1-0 to Spain in the second round of the World Cup.

Mourinho defends Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho insists Cristiano Ronaldo should not shoulder the blame for Portugal's World Cup exit.

Mourinho has defended his fellow countryman, who the former Chelsea boss will be coaching next season having moved to Santiago Bernabeu after his Treble triumph with Inter Milan.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he would love to see England coach Fabio Capello return to the Spanish capital for a third coaching stint.

However, the former Manchester United winger has also confessed that he doesn’t expect former team-mate Wayne Rooney to be playing alongside him next season.

Zinedine Zidane admits he's been "won over" by Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Zidane went public in the summer urging Real to sign Franck Ribery ahead of the former Manchester United star.

But he now says: "I was surprised by his play. He is a player that has a lot of self-confidence, a belief in everything he does. He imposes his determination on the rest. He's great in everything he does.

Lionel Messi has the opportunity to add the FIFA World Player of the Year award to his Ballon D'or trophy which he picked up last week. In doing so, he would become the first Argentinian to win the FIFA prize.

The shortlist of five candidates is comprised solely of Barcelona and Real Madridstars, with England's Premier League missing out altogether.

Messi is joined by Barcelona team mates Andres Iniesta and Xavi , so influential in the Catalan side's Champions League victory last season, part of an unprecedented treble.

The other nominees are Real Madrid stars Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo who finished a distant second to Messi in last week's Ballon D'or award.

The winner will then be revealed at the 19th FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich on Monday 21 December.

Cristiano Ronaldo is out of Portugal team due to his ankle injury

Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of Portugal's World Cup play-off against Bosnia-Herzegovina due to his ankle injury. The Portuguese football federation had been hoping to have the winger available for the two-legged tie, despite his club Real Madrid claiming he was not fit enough to take part.

Ronaldo travelled to Lisbon today to undergo tests with the Portugal medical team, who subsequently ruled the player out of the tie. "Cristiano was in Lisbon on Tuesday," Portugal's football federation said this evening. "The player is not in good enough physical condition to train with the squad ahead of the play-offs."

Ronaldo has not played for Madrid since their Champions League tie against Marseille on 30 September. He did appear for Portugal in their final World Cup qualification group game against Hungary on 10 October, but limped off early as his side secured a 3-0 win to ensure their play-off spot.

Madrid had earlier voiced their objection to the player leaving for national duty.

Portugal's coach, Carlos Queiroz, defended his decision to ask Ronaldo to return to Portugal for assessment. "Based on the rules and principles governing clubs and associations, we have put Cristiano in the squad," he told the Portuguese sports daily A Bola. "Of course, I welcome that these principles have been met. I have always said that this is a technical decision and that everyone must be observed before being cleared to play.

"Cristiano and everyone will be observed. Our medical team are competent and responsible, and you will see what happens. I do not understand the nervousness in some sectors. It is a decision that is non-negotiable, unavoidable, a decision that protects the interests of the player.

"I was coach of Real. The club deserves respect; I know the medical team, president and CEO. I have every respect for that club. But this fact cannot compel me to put any club below or above the others. All clubs and players deserve equal treatment."

Portugal were drawn to play Bosnia-Herzegovina in the play-off with the first leg to be played in Leiria on Saturday.

Zinedine Zidane believes that Cristiano Ronaldo was always destined to play for Real Madrid and that the Portuguese is now the biggest star in world football.

The French legend is delighted that the former Manchester United forward completed a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer for a record breaking €94 million.

Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid joined forces once again with the European Leukodystrophy Association (ELA). The legendary player inaugurated ELA-Spain in 2005 with friiend and former team-mate Raul Gonzalez. Several children who have the illness visited Valdebebas on Friday and had a chance to meet their idols. In the next couple of days they will take the Stadium Tour with Zidane and will see the banner of their association held by the players on the pitch right before the Real Madrid-Valladolid match kicks-off.

Real Madrid will use their match against Valladolid to spread awareness on the fight against leukodystrophy.

Children with the illness witll see the game live at the stadium with ELA Founding Chairman Guy Alba and ELA-Spain Chairman Bienvenido Corral.

Lukodystrophy destroys myelin (a layer that covers up nerves) in the central nervous system and gradually paralizes vital biological processes. It is currently incurable. Ever since its foundation in 1992, the ELA has tried to make people aware of the illness, to support families of people who suffer from it and to finance scientific research. The ELA has founded 317 research programmes, spending a total of 25.2 millon euros.

The Association's fight is beginnig to get its first results; current research results bring hope and allow scientists to believe that the illness may be treated in the future.
